Here you go Mr Krap, Huddersfield Ivanhoe's these days', if you could see around the back you'd see a supermarket butting almost upto the inside of the main entrance. The front is as it was in Dec 77 - i think the pistols were the last band ever to play there. it was shut down & boarded up, the main entrance is through the 3 middle doors you can see...
The poster we're probably all familliar with -
Shot from the gig (courtesy of the Huddersfield Examiner, who showed 'us' (The SPEX) a great collection of unseen shots they have on 'file', this is one of many.:-
And there's a few bootlegs recordings of the entire show that have emerged recently, a couple of the 'Sid sings' album songs are from this gig, but here's a little gem thats not often seen, a 7" record live from the Ivanhoe's gig, with Bodies on the A side, & No Fun on the B. The Sex pistols 'Christmas record' - get it..!?:-
Next time i pass i'll get some more recent shots..

Haha brilliant.
I went past it in around 1995 and it was derelict and looked as it did when the Pistols were there. It must have been derelict for a very long time. |

..whilst i'm at it then...
Longhorns Ballroom in Dallas, well worth a visit if your ever in the city, a short drive from Dealey plaza (JFK shootng site) & unchanged from jan 1978..
SPEx outside 28yrs later..
The venue is the only venue i've been to that celebrates its heritage & the fact the pistols played there, they do some good t-shirts & stuff, all available on-line.
Pistols on stage at Cains:-
As of 2006, its a great venue & had a major overhaul but still keeping many original features..you can join their mailing list off their website & keep upto date with up-coming shows.. its a real nice place.! (& great to play on stage there too.!)
Sid's Punch-hole that he did in the band dressing room with his newly acquired knuckledusters, during the refurbishment of the venue it was cut-out of the wall & its now framed & in the managers office..:-
Also in the managers office of Cains....
28yrs later the S.P.Exp' played there..
& not forgetting you can catch the SPEx with 'Ed' Tadpole' down at another former remaining original Pistols venue - the Boardwalk in Sheffield friday 21st March (Tonight) , otherwise known as the 'Black Swan', or 'Mucky Duck' as it was known locally.!
and again (as we all probalby know) on April 24th at the best of all the 'still surviving venues' in my oppinion, & almost unchanged in 32yrs or more.. Londons very own...
see you there if you can come.. - Malc'. |

just to add to this thread after our recent trip to Longhorns to perform at the annual 'Mods V's Rockers' festival on Friday 20th March 2009..
The Nervebreakers (the support band from Jan 1978) sent over a copy of the original poster for us to keep, only a handful survive as they were hand drawn..
The owner of the venue put the letters up on the Bull by the entrance...
They didn't have enough 'E's to make the word 'Experience'.!
When we walked in on the Thursday evening we we're somewhat disapointed to see the 'Longhorns' back drop missing from the back of the stage - the one we're so familliar with from the Pistols live film footage..
.. the boss told us it had long since dropped to bits due to a leaking roof back in the 80's, knowing our gig was due to be filmed - i went out to buy a bucket of white paint, 4 brushes, put 'Never mind the Bollocks' on through the P.A, cracked open a case of lone Star beer & we set about re-painting the logo 6' foot high & 12' accross...
Took about 6hours to do but looked pretty good in the end, and made the look of the show complete
We signed our handy work for future generations of bands to perform infront of hopefully..
The boss was so pleased we'd put so much effort into re-painting his logo after an absence of over 20yrs, he gave us all a free Longhorns t-shirt!
Afterwards we sat back for beers & cig's..

It may not be there much longer as the local Dallas council want to build a freeway through it. The venue needs the local Texan's support to get behind it & make the council slap a preservation order on it, otherwise it'll be lost for good. |

MR GEORGES NITECLUB 17th DEC 1977 has been closed for a few years and is now a large shop. There is however a plaque outside as part of the two tone trail to commemorate the specials.selecter and other 2tone bands playing there in the 70s.No mention of the best band to play there or the best gig there!
THE LANCASTER POLYTECNIC 29 NOV 1976 is still there as Coventry university but do not have bands playing there anymore.
COVENTRY RICOH 2010 is there and waiting! |

Re. Huddersfield Ivanhoes
Ivanhoes nightclub was a former cinema, the Grand Picture Theatre. It opened in 1921 only the facade survives as its a grade II listed building. Like Crooky said a new supermarket backs onto the front/facade. I'll try and get a picture sometime soon.
